Hanukkah Festival of Lights

We were responding to a blog post about Hanukkah and a Christian said 'The rest of the world could learn a valuable lesson from celebrating Hanukkah, especially America, in the wake of the recent Black Friday stampedes. Is pummeling someone ahead of you while entering a department store in order to get the best deal the new meaning of Christmas?

Our response

Why should there be any annual celebration of giving presents Pamela? Is that not just feeding the consumeristic materialism that is the complete opposite to the Christ principles? Is that not why the Christ stood against the Jewish priests? Due to their materialism?
What is the greatest gift?
The spiritual gifts from God that everyone was born with. But yet, humanity allow materialism to keep them in separation from God because they are too busy shopping outside of themselves instead of doing what Christ asked them to do.
The Buddhist monks live the Christ principles more than the Christians do.
Back to hanukkah the Hindus also celebrate a festival of lights.
